Why the map is essential
Learning a country's name without knowing where it is resembles learning a word without context. Geographical position is the primary memory anchor: once you know Mozambique is in eastern Africa, facing the Mozambique Channel, you'll never confuse it with neighbouring Malawi again.
Continent by continent method
Europe (44 countries)
Start here — you probably know 20-25 already. Hardest to place: Baltic states, former Yugoslavia, microstates.
Asia (48 countries)
Divide into sub-regions: Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia.
Africa (54 countries)
Approach: start with large recognisable countries, then trace coastal nations, then landlocked interior states.
Americas (35 countries)
South America first (only 12), then Central America (7 countries north to south), then Caribbean islands.
Oceania (14 countries)
Melanesia, Polynesia, Micronesia — group the micro-states by archipelago.
